Any Filipino ashamed to be Filipino is crud and does not deserve the honor of being a Filipino at all.
Yes, that’s a bit redundant but I’m too peeved to think straight, let alone compose a grammatically correct sentence.
Damn right, I’m proud to be a Filipino - that doesn’t mean that there aren’t times when I’m ashamed of other Filipinos, I mean, I can’t help but cringe when I see Pinoys take all the little pencils from Ikea "para sa mga apo ko!" or try to smuggle bagoong onto the plane, but that’s natural. Everyone, at one point or another is embarrassed in public by a tactless mother or loony uncle; that doesn’t mean you should go off and disown them or change your last name (unless you’re Maui (Fainsan) Taylor, of course, but that’s a whole other issue…). I swear, those pathetic, ignorant, heritage-hating scum from the bottom of the Pasig river make me sick.
Whew. Blogging really is cathartic. I feel a lot better. I think I can finally go to sleep now.
Good night!
